Why is kayaking so fun?
When you think of fun water sports, kayaking is probably one of the first things that come to mind. And for good reason! Kayaking is an incredibly enjoyable experience, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro. In this blog post, we'll take a look at some of the reasons why kayaking is so much fun. So if you're thinking about giving it a try, read on – you won't regret it!
Kayaking is a great way to get out and experience nature, have some fun, and stay active. It's no wonder why kayaking is such a popular activity. Here are just a few of the reasons why kayaking is so much fun.
1. Kayaking is a great way to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors
Kayaking is a great way to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors. It's a low-impact activity that is easy on your joints, and it's also a great way to explore your surroundings. Whether you're paddling through calm waters or navigating through rapids, kayaking is a great way to get your heart rate up and burn some calories.
Ever since I've gotten into kayaking, the amount of new places I've explored has grown exponentially. From mangrove tunnels in the Florida Keys to tumbling down waterfalls in Tennessee, there's always an adventure to be had. And the best part is, it's a great workout! I never would've guessed that paddling for hours could be so tiring, but it gives your arms and core a good workout.
2. It's easy to learn how to kayak and you can do it almost anywhere
There's nothing quite like paddling through serene waters in a kayak, enjoying the peacefulness of nature. And it's easier than you might think to learn how to kayak. In fact, once you've learned the basics, you can pretty much kayak anywhere there's water - from calm lakes to rushing rivers.
If you're thinking about taking up kayaking, here are a few things you should know. First, you'll need to find a kayak that fits you. There are many different types and styles of kayaks, so it's important to find one that suits your needs.
Next, you'll need to learn the basics of paddling. This includes proper stroke technique and how to turn and stop. Once you've mastered the basics, you'll be able to paddle with confidence.
Finally, you'll need to dress for the occasion. Kayaking can be a wet sport, so be sure to wear appropriate clothing. A wetsuit or drysuit will keep you warm and dry, and a life jacket is always a good idea.
Now that you know the basics, it's time to get out there and start paddling!
3. Kayaking is a great way to explore waterways and nature
Kayaking is easily my favorite way to explore waterways and nature. It's a great workout, and it's also a ton of fun. Kayaking is always a fun alternate way of exploring your local area and finding new places to camp and hike.
I always love going on kayak adventures with friends and family. With just a small amount of gear and a little bit of energy (and the dog of course!). We are easily prepared for a good weekend. Being a kayaker gives me the flexibility of being able to pack enough gear for a few people while also being able to benefit from having a small boat. This makes adventuring a lot easier and gives us access to camping spots that are less accessible to the public.
Kayaking is a great way to explore nature and get some exercise at the same time - which is why I love it soooo much!
4. It's a fun activity for all ages
While it can seem daunting for younger or older audiences, I find that the versatility that kayaking offers is great for anyone. While many people envision kayaking as a tedious workout in the rapids, it can be a gentle and leisurely activity.
There are many lakes (and other small bodies of water) with no water turbulence that offers a nice place for a relaxing and easy paddle. Googling for local paddle places in your area can help you find a few great places where you can get your feet wet (literally and figuratively) with kayaking.
Another main concern I often see in regards to age is safety, especially in regards to how tippy kayaks can be. Luckily, there are a few precautions we can take to greatly minimize any risks. Firstly, the wider the kayak, the harder it is to tip it. There are many kayaks on the market that are so wide that there is no risk of any accidental tipping. Another precaution we can take is to ensure that we have the proper equipment. This includes having a life jacket (and wearing it), a whistle and if possible a friend (better if they are a lifeguard).
*I plan to release an article soon going into much greater depth as to what is the best stuff to bring and how to stay safe.
5. You can go kayaking with friends or family for a social outing
I hinted at this a few times in this post but kayaking makes for a great activity to do with friends and family. Instead of spending another evening just hanging around in the backyard, I suggest trying to take it to the lake!
It's a great way to burn some calories with minimal effort, get more sun and lots of fresh air. Depending on where you live, there are also many great views that you can witness while kayaking which makes for great talking points. One of my favorite ways to explore nature with friends!
6. Kayaking can be competitive or recreational - there's something for everyone!
Kayaking is a great activity for people of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're looking for a competitive edge or just a way to enjoy the outdoors, kayaking has something for everyone. For those who want to test their mettle, there are plenty of kayaking competitions held throughout the year. But if you're just looking for a leisurely way to enjoy the water, kayaking is also a great option.
While it is not something that I have done too much of I think that competitive kayaking can be an amazing way to burn tons of calories while also satisfying that competitive urge that many people feel. Even just watching the sport on TV at the Olympics, I still get a sense of thrill when I watch the athletes run through the rapids. I highly recommend checking it out if you ever get the chance. Who knows, you might just find your new passion!
7. Exclusive access
One last awesome thing I want to mention about kayaking is all the extra access you have just by being able to easily travel on water. There are many untouched beaches and islands that you can explore just because they are only accessible by water. As long as you aren't trespassing or breaking any local laws, then there are lots of opportunities for you to explore new areas and enjoy the untouched nature!
So, if you’re looking for a fun outdoor activity that anyone can do, kayaking is a perfect choice. It’s easy to learn and provides a great workout, not to mention the amazing views you get to see while paddling around on the water. So what are you waiting for? Grab your kayak and hit the nearest body of water for some unforgettable fun.
